DBA - Industry Insights

Meet DBA board member Cody Carpenter

Tell us a bit about yourself and your farm.

My family owns and operates Redrock View Farms located in Darlington, Wis. in the southwest corner of the state. I farm with my wife, Carrie Jo, two kids, Chloe and Cash, parents, Steve and Lisa, and my two brothers, Colton and Carson. My other sibling, Cora, works off the farm. We milk mostly Registered Holsteins with a handful of Jerseys that the third generation enjoys exhibiting at some local shows. All our crops go into feeding the cows with the primary sources being corn (silage/ shelled), alfalfa and soybeans, along with many different cover crops we harvest as silage.

Tell us why you are committed to the organization and what it means to your farm.

Redrock View Farms is a member of both Edge and DBA. As we look toward the future, being good stewards of the land that takes care of us is important. The farm is also a member of the farmer-led watershed group, Lafayette Ag Stewardship Alliance (LASA). I was elected to serve on the DBA board of directors at the 2025 Annual Meeting. Having attended college at UW-Madison, I have seen how the affairs of government can have profound effects on our day-to-day lives. As a whole, we in
agriculture often undervalue the importance our input can have on our elected officials. By being involved in DBA and Edge, I hope to be able to ensure that the next generation has the opportunity to continue the lifestyle through farming that I have enjoyed so much. Since joining both DBA and Edge, I continue to be impressed with the staff of both organizations. I have participated in Dairy Day at the Capitol events and witnessed first-hand how much state lawmakers value the opinion of DBA and respect our approach in moving the dairy industry forward. I believe that these organizations are our best advocates in both Madison and
Washington, D.C., which is why we continue to see value in our memberships.

What are you currently enjoying the most in your role on the board, and what are you looking forward to in the months ahead?

In my time as a board member, I have enjoyed meeting other progressive, like-minded members that share my passion for the dairy industry. Being able to influence decisions made in legislation that affect our livelihood has been rewarding, as well. One of my goals as a board member is to continue to gain members in the organization so we can continue to assist us in moving dairy forward in the state and ensuring that we remain a place where people want to milk cows. I am looking forward to continuing to grow these great organizations by adding progressive producers and partners in the industry to help the goal of ensuring a bright future for those that choose this noble lifestyle. While politics in our state can change, I am excited for the opportunity to work with our staff to ensure that DBA remains a trusted voice for the world of dairy. I love the dairy industry and look forward to serving our membership in my coming term.
