Local Affairs

Engaging in local advocacy efforts

As farmers, it’s important to stay informed about potential proposals at the local and county levels. Whether it’s through public meetings, community engagement or direct communication with local officials, being proactive in these discussions is key. With the right information and support from the Dairy Business Association, farmers can advocate effectively for their needs and ensure that our collective voice is represented in shaping policies that affect us all.

DBA stays closely engaged with local issues that could impact your farm by monitoring new proposals and revisions to ordinances and participates in important discussions.

What are they discussing locally across the state?

Animal Waste Storage Guidelines

The majority of counties throughout Wisconsin have an animal waste storage ordinance that is regularly revised and updated. DBA works closely with local farmers to ensure those modifications are fair and reasonable.

Livestock Operations Ordinance

Many towns and county boards are feeling pressured to enforce operations ordinances that target large livestock operations. Our efforts focus on sharing information about the regulations that already exist to protect local environmental resources.

Manure Hauling and Road Ordinances

Local governments across Wisconsin continue to implement road ordinances that can impact how farms operate. DBA has assisted local farmers with ordinances that have impacted manure hauling, highway permit fees and agricultural vehicles on the road.

Other Local Issues

DBA remains dedicated to helping farmers across Wisconsin with conversations occurring at the local government level. Our focus is farmer-led discussions in collaboration with elected officials to discuss reasonable solutions.
